The "Z" in the remark column indicates he was ready for immediate recall if hostilities were to breakout again - strange as PM had been gassed in France. The "M2" prefix to his unit number indicated that PM was a "motor mechanic - 2nd class", there were by the way no 1st class mechanics. PM would be expected to drive/ride any motor transport in the battalion and also make necessary repairs. |
