THE LATE MRS. HARDY
The funeral of Mrs. Adela Hardy, of Meldrith
Lodge, who died at the Nursing Home, Portland Street, Lynn, after a short
illness was on Friday, 17th November. After a service at St.
Edmund’s church, the vicar (Rev. W.D.B. Curry) officiating, the remains were
interred in the churchyard of Old Hunstanton. Mrs. Hardy was a daughter of Mr.
Peter Watson, schoolmaster and astronomer, of Byculla, India. After
serving through the Mutiny, Mr. Watson retuned to England
56 years ago, and took up residence at Eaglescliffe, Durham. The late Mrs. Hardy often spoke of
her voyage from India
in a sailing vessel which often took over 200 days to make the passage. Her
husband, Mr. W. Hardy L.D.S., was a well-known figure in Hunstanton, he having
been for several years a member of the Urban District
Council, of which he was chairman for a time. Mrs. Hardy was a grand-daughter
of Admiral Collier. In Hunstanton much sympathy is felt with the family in
their sorrow. The principal mourners at the funeral were messers J.J.F. and H.
Fleming (sons), Mrs. Woods (sister), Mr. T.Q. Bowett, Mrs. Hart and Mrs. J.S.
Witley. A number of townspeople attended
the service at the church.
